On Wednesday afternoon, the boys were finished with school, and Tom had no chores to do, but I still had a meeting to call into, so the three of them decided to take the kayaks out for a little paddle through the canal.
Bryce borrowed the neighbors’ kayak again, and Tom and Nick used the ones that are here at the park. Tom had a quick lesson from Debbie,
and then he was ready to go!
Bryce and Nicolas look so comfortable in the kayaks, you’d think they’ve been doing this all their lives!
I got a quick picture of the three of them before they set off, and then gave Nicolas my old camera so he could get some pictures as they paddled around.
They launched the kayaks in the canal right in front of our campsite, and went to the right (see map below).
They followed along, staying in the canal, until they reached Alligator Island, which is about 1.5 miles from our campsite.
Nicolas got some good pictures as they were paddling, of Tom & Bryce,
and some nice shots of birds along the canals.
a great blue heron and double-crested cormorant
a little blue heron and a little egret (I think)
This pelican looks like he’s a little wary of Nicolas getting so close!
They arrived at the little island, hoping that maybe the alligator would be hanging out there, but he wasn’t . . .
It was a beautiful day for a paddle – with just enough clouds to keep it from being too hot – and they had a great time, and no mishaps!
Way to go boys!!! This has been perfect kayaking weather!!!
