Moving Weekend

Ready to roll

Just like that, vacation was over and it was time for Bryce to move back in at Michigan State – I can’t believe how quickly the summer went!  We loaded up and pointed the RV east again, with our destination of Sleepy Hollow State Park, about 30 minutes north of MSU.  We don’t usually stay at state parks,  but there aren’t many options close to East Lansing, and the descriptions online sounded like we would fit OK.

Site 3

We left some extra room on the right so Bryce could park his car alongside the motorhome.

It was a little tight getting into the site, but it was plenty long.  We had just 30 amp, and had to use our extension cord to reach the plug, no water or sewer, either.

It worked out OK, though, and we were only going to be there for 3 days, and most of our time would be spent down at MSU.

A little narrow

The site looks a little narrow in the front, but actually opened up quite nicely in the back, where the firepit is.

Widens up in the back

This was a nice state park – all the roads and sites are paved, and there are lots of hiking/biking trails, and it’s a nice bike ride down to the beach.  Tom and I took a bike ride down there one evening after getting back from MSU.

Lake Ovid

That was about all the recreation time we had time for during our stay.  The rest of the time, we were down in East Lansing getting Bryce moved in and settled.

He stored some of his stuff in a storage unit over the summer, so we picked up that stuff first, and then headed over to the University.

Butterfield Hall

He’s in a new dorm this year, and it’s newer and a little nicer than the one he was in last year.  It’s right next to the cafeteria that he usually eats at,

Brody Caf

and he has convenient parking out back for his bike, and parking in front for his car.  Can’t get much better than that!

On Friday afternoon we got most of his stuff out of his storage unit and unloaded everything from his car that had been at my Mom’s house or in the motorhome.  We dropped it all off, and just pushed it out of the way until he and his roommate could decide what to do with the furniture.

On the way back to the campground, we made a Walmart run to stock up on supplies and snacks for him.

On Saturday morning, we picked up the last of his stuff and met his roommate.  They decided on furniture arrangement and started putting stuff away.

Lunch in the Caf on moving day

Families get a free meal in the cafeteria on move-in day, so Tom and I joined Bryce and a couple of his friends for lunch.

Afterwards, we left Bryce and his roommate to settle in and get their stuff put away.

Hannah was moving in on Sunday, and the three of us met up with her family for lunch at the Spartan Hall of Fame Cafe.  Afterwards, we stopped back at Bryce’s room to drop off a few last things and see how they had it all fixed up.

Looks pretty cozy!  They have all the comforts of home!

All moved in!

We said good-bye to Bryce, and he promised to work hard in his classes and call his mom every week!  Don’t forget that, Bryce!!  Have a great year!

Meanwhile in Virginia . . . it was moving weekend for Nicolas, too!

On Saturday, he bought a 2014 Open Range travel trailer.

Nicolas ready to take his new camper home

He’ll be living in it in Virginia, and I think it will be much more comfortable for him than the accommodations on the ship!

All set up at the campground.

Home Sweet Home

Mustang quilt

He’s still working on getting things put away inside, so I’m waiting for more pictures, but he did send me one of his new Mustang quilt on his bed (I think he needs a couple more pillows!)

Looks good, Nicolas, it’ll be a nice home for you!

It makes me happy to see both boys settling into their own lives so easily and comfortably!  We sure do love those guys!

  3. Nice to see the "young men" doing so well. We remember when we first met them back in 2011. Nicolas has himself a nice trailer, love the Mustang blanket.
