Our last weekend in Bradenton was shaping up to be beautiful, so on Saturday we made one last trip out to Anna Maria Island to enjoy another day at the beach.
Such a beautiful beach – I just couldn’t get enough of it!
On Sunday, we hung out at the RV Park for most of the day, but then there was one more thing we wanted to see before leaving Florida. Every Sunday evening at Siesta Key Beach is the Siesta Key Drum Circle.
People gather from all over – drummers, dancers, and other performers – and form a circle on the beach just before sunset. With this being the weekend before Easter, we knew it would be crowded, but we were not prepared for the huge number of people gathered at the beach!
The huge parking lot that has been pretty much empty every time we’ve come to the beach was packed! We had to wait for somebody to leave before we could park the Jeep. Once we finally got a spot and walked towards the beach we were amazed – there was already a huge group gathered around the circle of performers,
and more waiting for the sunset.
We approached the circle and eased our way through the mass of spectators to a spot where we could see some of the action.
This guy was pretty interesting . . . and he managed to gather quite a group of college girls to dance with him!
We moved in closer to get a better look at some of the drummers.
Anybody can participate—whether you have drums, or just an upside-down bucket and something to hit it with. There was a pretty good group gathered, but there were definitely more spectators than participants. It was very interesting to watch!
The sun was getting closer to the horizon – and we spotted a dinosaur leading a conga line –
so we took a walk down to the water to watch the sunset.
It was beautiful!
On the way back to the drum circle, we spotted the dinosaur again!
As it got darker, many of the performers added lights,
and we moved around to the other side of the circle to get closer to the drummers.
Tom gave it a try, but he struggled with keeping up with the beat – he said it’s harder than it looks!
The crowd was beginning the thin out and some of the drummers were beginning to pack up their equipment when we left.
It was a really cool evening – very interesting and fun – and we were glad we checked it out before we left!
