With Easter approaching, the snowbirds were gradually starting on their migration north. Everyday, a few more RVs would pack up and head north.
We’re not snowbirds, but we do go back north in the summer, and it was time for us to get on the move, too.
Our first stop was just a little north of Tampa, in Brooksville. We were getting our slides inspected and anticipated getting plates installed on the bottom of each slide. We were told to plan on a 3-day stay, which would get us through the Easter weekend.
It was an easy drive up I-75, and we were set up for the weekend before noon.
We had our inspection later that afternoon, and were kindof surprised to learn that our slides were in good shape, and not in need of plates. His only recommendation to us was to re-seal the trim on the slidewalls and the top of each beltline on the sides of the coach.
We hadn’t made any alternative plans for the holiday weekend, and the next RV was not due in our spot until Monday morning, so we were OK to stay the planned 3 days, even though we were not getting any work done. We were able to buy the ProFlex RV sealant from him, and picked up other miscellaneous supplies from Walmart down the road . . . so we made good use of the next few days and got all of the re-sealing done.
When we weren’t working, we made use of the Suncoast Trail which ran alongside the Suncoast Turnpike, right in front of where we were staying.
We also did a little bit of exploring and shopping in Brooksville,
and ate lunch where Elvis ate!
Coney Island Drive-In
The coneys weren’t quite Lafayette Coney Island caliber, but they were pretty good – about as close as we’ve seen in Florida!
Good price – $2.59 for my footlong coney, and $4.59 for Tom’s footlong with coney sauce, cole slaw and onion rings on it!
Only $2.50 for the homemade chips, too!
We had some free time on the weekend, so I decided to make Easter bread to go with our ham for Easter – YUM!
Bright and early on Monday morning, we packed up and started our exodus from Florida. Our destination was Cecil Bay RV Park, just north of Valdosta, Georgia. It was a 225 mile trip, and we were taking the state highway instead of I-75. We figured that the traffic would be lighter and the the scenery more interesting.
Once we got through the first few towns and the little bit of construction around Homosassa Springs, it was and very pleasant and uneventful drive.
We followed the Suwanee River,
and passed farms and pecan plantations, as we made our way into Georgia.
Our last 20 miles were on I-75, and we pulled into Cecil Bay RV Resort around 1pm.
Not a bad location! We had a nice, long pull-thru site, and we didn’t even unhitch the the Jeep.
After a couple of days there, where I worked and got some laundry done, it was time to move on again – towards central Georgia. Casey is such a good little co-pilot!
Now were settled at Little River Park in Millidgeville, where we’ll spend the weekend visiting with the Georgia cousins – looking forward to catching up!
