Into Arizona . . . Holbrook & Winslow

Arizona Route 66

After an overnight stay in Grants, NM, we continued west on I-40 . . .

through the desert,

dodging construction,

and into Arizona, another new state for us.

Welcome to Arizona

How’s that for a welcome to Arizona??!!

Bryce was driving, and he was glad to finally have dry roads and sunshine!

DSC_0362We arrived at our destination,

the Root 66 RV Park, and after a little discussion, we decided to stay 2 nights.  The RV Park is bare-bones, but with the Passport America discount, the price was right.  we weren’t going to be spending much time in the park, anyway.

We chose this location based on its proximity to the Petrified Forest National Park, but that will be a separate post.  We were also fairly close to Holbrook and Winslow, so we went for a drive.

Holbrook is known for  petrified wood, Indian Gift Shops,

Dinosaurs in Holbrook

and the Wigwam Motel.

Route 66 Classic!

This is another one of those iconic Route 66 sites, and it was really cute.  Each individual wigwam had a classic car parked outside of it.

Arizona Route 66

Following Route 66 out of Holbrook, we arrived in Winslow, Arizona . . . and found “the corner”.

Winslow, Arizona

We all took turns “Standin’ on the Corner”,

and Nicolas found the Flatbed Ford.

There was a giftshop on the opposite corner that had some pretty neat Route 66 stuff,      Standin' on the Corner Gift Shop

but we didn’t buy anything.  As we left, the cashier called out “Take it easy!” . . . I think she probably has to say that!! Smile

We also saw the “World’s Smallest Church”,

World's Smallest Church

although Bryce doubted that it was actually a Church, because it didn’t have any schedule of services posted anywhere.

There was a diner in town that looked really nice, but we weren’t quite ready for dinner yet and there wasn’t really anything to keep us busy until dinnertime, so we headed back to the RV Park.

There wasn’t a whole lot in these 2 little towns, but they were cute and fun to visit!
