We'll drive 100 miles for Subway . . . or old friends!

Thursday morning was rainy, so we slept in and had a lazy morning in the camper.  Around noon, we decided to take a drive.  I thought we might go see the lighthouses along Lake Huron, but the "boys" weren't really interested, so we headed towards Gaylord instead.  We didn't see much that interested us in town, so we just kept driving through.  We had some neighbors back when we lived in a condo in Farmington Hills that have a cabin in the woods a little west of Gaylord.  It's been quite a few years since we've seen them or been to their cabin, so we decided to see to go see if we could find it still.  I had left their phone number at home, and we had no idea if they were even up here, but it was a nice day for a drive . . . at least for some of us!  We stopped for lunch at the Subway in Mancelona, and Bryce was appalled that we just drove "100 miles to go to Subway!!"  It wasn't 100 miles, and we were hopefully going to see our old friends.  Of course, the boys were also shocked that "You don't even know if they're there, and you can't call before showing up at their door!??!!

Luckily, Tom and I still have pretty good visual memories, and we found our way to their cabin . . . and Bob and Donna were there!!

These two were great neighbors when we lived next door to them, and even though it has been many years since we'd seen each other last, we fell right into a lively conversation as if it had been just yesterday!  So easy, in fact, that we spent over three hours visiting with them!  It was getting late and we had a long drive back to the RV, so with hugs and promises to keep in touch, we departed.

On the way back through Gaylord, we spotted a car show at the Culver Restaurant.

We decided to stop for an ice cream, and to look around awhile.  We spotted some nice old Chevies,

and a Galaxy like the one Tom drove to high school years ago,

and these three fellas, chillin' out in the back seat!

We finished up our ice cream, topped off the diesel at Speedway, and headed back to the RV.  The humidity had finally broken after today's rain, so we decided it would be a good night for a campfire.

Howard and Linda joined us, and we fought off the mosquitos until 11pm or so, and then called it a night.  Overall, it was a pretty good day!
