Prince Edward County, Ontario

Looks like a storm is coming!

We selected Quinte’s Isle Camp Park in Prince Edward County because our friends, Ray & Sonia, have a cottage there . . . little did we know it was a major resort destination in Ontario, complete with cute little towns, numerous wineries, and a very popular Provincial Park on Lake Ontario.

After getting set up on Thursday, we took a walk with Casey to look around the resort.

Nice pools!

As we walked along the beach, it looked like there was quite a storm brewing!

Big waves

Casey wanted to get the wavesThe wind was really picking up and the waves were getting huge – lots of whitecaps!  Casey was dying to get in there and attack them!

We hurried back to the motorhome, but it never did rain!

We had a nice rainbow, though.

No rain, but a rainbow!

The storm had passed, but the wind and waves continued through the evening and night – there was definitely a cold front coming through!

The storm has passed

Tom was beginning to question the sanity of going north!! Smile

By the next morning, though, the wind and the water had calmed down,

and the weekend was very pleasant and sunny, although a little on the cool side.

We spent the next couple of days catching up with Ray and Sonia,

and touring the back roads and small towns of Prince Edward County.

We started out on Friday by running a few errands, then enjoying a nice lunch at the Lake on the Mountain Inn.

Cranking the engine

Always the funny guy – Tom tries to crank start the engine on this old Model T!

Lunch was delicious, and afterwards we enjoyed the view of both Lake on the Mountain, and Picton Bay of Lake Ontario.

A great day with friends!

After lunch, we visited one of their favorite area wineries – Waupoos Winery.

It was a beautiful location overlooking Lake Ontario.

We did a little wine tasting,

and the guys did a little relaxing while Sonia and I looked around the shops.

Back at the RV Park, the weekend crowd had started arriving.  This cute little camper moved in just down the road from us.

Ray had been telling us that many years ago the Canadian Air Force had sunk a secret plane into Lake Ontario, not far from Pebble Beach, and for the last several weeks there has been a group of scientists searching for it with a remote control submarine off of a barge that has been using the boat basin as its home base.

We watched it go out on Friday morning,

and when we got back in the afternoon, we heard that they had located the plane.  Later, we watched as they off-loaded the submarine.

Pretty cool!

Sonia made us a delicious dinner on Friday, which we enjoyed with a bottle of wine, while watching the progress of Hurricane Irma toward Florida.

Saturday was another day of exploring the area with tour guide Ray behind the wheel.  Our first stop was was Sandbanks Provincial Park, home to a popular sand beach on Lake Ontario and an area of dunes.

It wasn’t too busy on this chilly morning, but Sonia said it’s very busy in the summer, with the parking lots full and cars lined along the roads into the park.

Next up – shopping!

Dead People's Stuff

We had to stop at this antique shop just because of the name!

They had some pretty cool old stuff . . .

and even more inside!

More Tools

Teas anyone?

It was an interesting little shop, and Sonia found some old tomato crates that she’s going to use as a wine cabinet.

Next Stop – cheese curds!

More barn quilts

The farm had a bakery and a nice produce market, too . . . didn’t buy produce, though, it’ll have to wait until we get to New York!

We did stop to visit the animals, though.

Free Range Turkeys

What a face!

The little town of Bloomfield had several really cute shops.  Tom and Ray found a bench to take up residence on while Sonia and I did a little window-shopping.

Shopping in Bloomfield

Really cute town!

Our last stop for the day was Picton.  It’s a bigger town, but still has a nice quaint downtown shopping district.  We walked through a few shops, and I even found a Quilt Shop.  Frugal & Company was a really cool shop . . . kindof an antique shop, but with more of a retro style.

A stop in the LCBO yielded quite a haul for Tom and I . . . we were just checking it out (prices are much higher than in the states, so nobody would want to buy it here to take back), when the clerk told us to take some sample bottles home with us.  She kept saying, “Here, try this one!” and even gave us a bag to carry them all!  We ended up with 18 sample bottles, and didn’t buy a thing!

Our haul from LCBO!

On the way back to the RV Park, I finally got a picture of this cute little gas station that we had passed on the way here on Thursday afternoon.  It just kindof sums up the vibe in Prince Edward County!

Cute old garage

We finished up this wonderful day with a beautiful sunset and a cozy campfire!

A lovely evening for a campfire

Sunday was a quiet day.

After mass and a little more shopping, Tom and I got the bikes loaded and the Jeep and hitched the Jeep to the motorhome, before another delicious dinner courtesy of Sonia and Ray.

We had a really enjoyable weekend, and we’re sure glad we were able to meet up with them again . . . hopefully we’ll see each other in Florida and Arizona one of these years when they get a new RV! Smile

Thanks guys!!

Such a cute couple!

  1. It's embarrassing to say that I have never been to Prince Edward County in Ontario before. Looks like someplace we'll enjoy visiting somewhere down the road. Glad you had fun with your friends.
