Week One was very productive

Settled in here at Davis Lakes, our first week was very productive.  The weather has been wonderful, so Tom and Nick took advantage of that one day and got both the motorhome and Nick’s camper washed.  Tom also got started on waxing the motorhome . . . but that will take several days to finish.

Nicolas had an unexpected day off on Friday, so we decided to tackle a couple of things that have been on his list for a while.  First up was replacing his kitchen faucet.  The one he had was centered over one bowl, rather than between the two bowls, so he really could only use one sink.  It also included a soap dispenser, which he never used.  So, we set off to Lowe’s to look for something different.  He didn’t want to spend a lot, but we were able to find a faucet that would work that wasn’t too expensive.  Basically we were going to abandon the 2 holes in his counter, and add one between them that would allow the faucet to be centered between the two sinks.

With a discount for an open box, plus his military discount, he was able to get the new faucet, plus plumber’s putty and a hole saw for less than $90.  Then we were able to sell his old one on eBay for $30, so he did pretty good!

Back at home, Nick and Tom got to work installing the new faucet.  It was a pretty easy install.

Looks good too!

With that done, he was happy, and it was time for the next task on his list of upgrades.  He’s hated ihs couch ever since he bought this camper, and he was ready now to buy something different.  He’s been trying to sell it before he buys something else, but wasn’t having any luck on Facebook or craigslist.

Nicolas' old couch

He wants to get a 2-seat recliner couch, and found a few on facebook that he wanted to go look at.  We looked at several, and were split on preferences – Nick and I were leaning toward the first one we looked at, and Tom was leaning toward the last one we looked at.  The one that Nick & I liked was probably a lesser quality than the one Tom liked, but it was in better shape.  They were both around $300, but the people with the first one were interested in taking Nick’s couch in partial trade, so it would only cost him $200.  We went home to think about it for a couple days, and then on Sunday Nick decided to buy the first one for $200.

The people weren’t home when Nick called, so while we waited for them to return his call, we headed over to Verizon to make some changes to our cell phone plans. We both have single line plans with Verizon, and have been considering switching to the Unlimited plan.  It will be much more economical to have a family plan, and I could switch Bryce over from Straight Talk, too.  We’re all going on Nick’s account because he can still get the military discount, as that’s the only discount offered on the Unlimited plans.

We were at Verizon when Nick got a call that the folks with the couch were home.  We wrapped up there and got home and loaded Nick’s couch into the truck.  It was a little tight getting it through the door, but they managed it.  We were supposed to get thunderstorms later in the afternoon, so they were racing against the weather!  Fortunately, they made it back from Virginia Beach with the couch before any rain arrived (and actually, the weathermen were wrong again, and all we got was a little sprinkle!).

The new couch actually went in a lot easier than the old couch came out!

It looks good!

New couch

It’s bigger than the old one, but it’s a wall hugger, so it can be pretty much right up against the wall.  Nick says it’s very comfortable!

. . . a very productive weekend!

On Saturday, Nicolas had duty, so Tom and I were on our own.  We spent the morning finishing up waxing the back side of the motorhome, then after lunch, we took a drive back to Smithfield to check out the Vintage Market.

Vintage Market

Vintage Market

It was kindof a cross between a flea market, a farmers market, an art fair, and a “pickers” kind of fair.  Lots going on there . . .

Tom wasn’t happy about having to pay admission, $5 each.  Not too bad . . .

It was fun to look around, and we saw lots of interesting stuff . . . kindof fun if you were decorating a house . . . or a rusty cottage!

There were food vendors, too, and several musicians.

We didn’t buy much – just a bag of kettle corn to snack on as we walked, and a little something to go with my Mom’s Mother’s Day present.  It was a fun way to spend the afternoon, though.

This was my favorite vendor booth!  CUTE!

From there, we went into Smithfield and picked another bucket of strawberries before heading back home.  YUM – still good!

Yep, it was a very good week!
